The Best Foods to Sink Your Teeth into During the Big Game on Sunday

February 5, 2016Dakota DentalDental Tips

Dakota Dental family dentalWhether it’s because of the game itself, the awesome commercials, or the big halftime show, chances are good that you’re getting excited for Super Bowl Sunday! It’s always fun to get together with friends or family and watch the big game — and of course, have some great snacks!

For the sake of your teeth, though, aim to nibble on tooth-friendly snacks this Super Bowl. Now this doesn’t mean you have to leave all of your favorite snacks on the sideline. Here are some super snacks that, in moderation, will keep your perfect teeth and winning smile at the top of its game all season long.

A Tasty Jalapeño Dip – Taking a simple, low-sugar veggie dip is not only friendly for your teeth, but will also encourage you to eat your veggies! Raw vegetables help to build strong teeth and can help prevent gingivitis. Use a sour cream base in your dip to provide an added dose of calcium, too!

Hummus – This is another healthy dip for your veggies or pita chips. Hummus is also filling so you won’t be as tempted to munch on too many other snacks and sweets.

Meat and cheese Trays – Cheese is packed with calcium and casein, a protein that helps protect the surface of your teeth.

Be careful with crackers, breads, and chips; all of these foods can stick to your teeth and encourage bacterial growth. And of course, sodas and sugary snacks can weaken your tooth enamel.

At Dakota Dental, we know no one is perfect, but with these tips we hope you’ll be taking care of your teeth and maintaining your healthy smile. If you do indulge in some not-so-good snacks, be sure to rinse your mouth with water or brush your teeth as soon as you can.

After the game is over, visit the family dentists at Dakota Dental to make sure your teeth haven’t taken any big hits! The dentists at Dakota Dental can help with teeth whitening and any other dental health issues you may have. Contact us today – and enjoy the big game!
