Answering Your Denture Questions 

What are dentures? 

Dentures are removable replacements for teeth and their surrounding tissue. They’re life-changing if you’ve recently suffered from tooth loss and have trouble chewing. 

What are dentures made of?

Most dentures today are made out of either acrylic resin or porcelain. There are pros and cons to both types of these removable dental appliances; we can talk you through them during your consultation.

When should I get dentures? 

If your teeth are loose, you’re suffering from chronic toothaches, you’re missing one or more teeth, or you struggle eating certain foods, dentures might be the right option. Our dentists will look at your teeth during your next dental examination, weigh in with their thoughts, and discuss next steps. As always, your questions are encouraged! 

Can you eat with dentures?

After a short adjustment period, you’ll likely become comfortable eating most foods. Sticky foods (e.g., gum) or hard foods (e.g., apples) may be trickier, and some people stop eating them altogether. 

That being said, if you’re still struggling with chewing, fit may be the issue. Our dental team can make adjustments so you feel more comfortable. 

What type of dentures looks the most natural?

The most natural-looking dentures are porcelain implant-supported ones made from porcelain. Because they’re built on a strong foundation, you don’t have to worry about shifting and sliding. The porcelain can even be color-matched to your natural teeth. 

Can I sleep with my dentures in?

We don’t recommend sleeping with your dentures in because it can lead to a build-up of bacteria and other health issues. Instead, take out your dentures every night before going to bed.
