Tooth-Friendly Snacks for the Big Football Game

January 30, 2024Dakota DentalDental Tips

Whether it’s because of the game itself, the awesome commercials, or the big halftime show, chances are good that you’re excited for Super Bowl Sunday coming up in a few weeks! It’s always fun to get together with fellow fans to watch your favorite team and munch on game day snacks. If you’re looking for tooth-friendly alternatives while you root for your team, keep reading!

Healthy Game Day Snacks

For the sake of your smile, aim to nibble on tooth-friendly snacks this Super Bowl. Now, this doesn’t mean you must leave all your favorite snacks on the sideline. Here are some super snacks that, in moderation, will keep your perfect teeth and winning smile at the top of its game all season long.

Jalapeño Dip – Taking a simple, low-sugar veggie dip is friendly for your teeth and encourages you to eat your veggies! Raw vegetables help to build strong teeth and can help prevent gingivitis. For an added dose of calcium, use a sour cream base in your dip.

Crunchy Vegetable Sticks & Pita Chips with Hummus – Pair crunchy vegetable sticks like celery, carrots, and bell peppers with hummus for a nutritious, tooth-friendly dip. Hummus is also filling and a good source of protein and fiber!

Guacamole with Whole Grain Crackers – Guacamole is a crowd-pleaser. Avocados are rich in healthy fats and contain potassium, which is beneficial for oral health. Whole grain crackers provide a crunchy texture without the excess refined sugars found in some snack options.

Meat and Cheese Trays – Cheese is a fantastic tooth-friendly snack as it contains calcium and phosphorus, which help strengthen enamel. Create a diverse cheese platter with cheddar, mozzarella, and Swiss. Add some whole grain crackers and a handful of nuts for a satisfying and tooth-conscious combination.

Crispy Veggie Chips – Opt for crispy veggie chips instead of traditional potato chips that can be harsh on your teeth. Sweet potato, beet, and kale chips are delicious and packed with vitamins and minerals!

Baked Chicken Wings – Chicken wings are a Super Bowl staple, but the traditional fried versions can be harsh on teeth. Opt for baked chicken wings instead, seasoned with flavorful spices. Baking reduces the grease content while delivering the mouthwatering taste you crave during game day.

Fruit Skewers – Satisfy your sweet tooth with fruit skewers featuring a variety of colorful fruits like strawberries, pineapple, and grapes. These naturally sweet treats are not only tooth-friendly but also provide a refreshing contrast to savory snacks.

Deviled Eggs – Eggs are notoriously good for your teeth because they’re rich in phosphorus, which can help strengthen enamel. For the filling, use mustard and substitute greek yogurt for the traditional mayonnaise.

Treats to Enjoy in Moderation

We’re not telling you to give up all of your favorites. But to protect your teeth, enjoy sodas and sugary snacks in moderation. Too much can weaken your tooth enamel and lead to decay, which is the last thing we want.

Hopefully, with these tips, you’ll enjoy some healthy game day snacks while taking care of your teeth and maintaining a healthy smile. If you enjoy some of your favorite treats, rinse your mouth with water or brush your teeth as soon as possible. Trust us—your teeth and your future self will thank you!
