Dental Implant Surgery

A Permanent Solution for Missing Teeth

Why should I consider dental implants?

If you’re missing one or more teeth, you may be wondering what options you have to restore your smile. We all want a natural, healthy smile and teeth that function as we age. Although there are other tooth replacement solutions available, including dental bridges or dentures, dental implants offer the best standard of care and a long-term solution.

When you choose dental implants in Apple Valley, MN, you can expect the following benefits:

  • Teeth that are permanently fixed in place and won’t loosen or fall out like dentures
  • Teeth that preserve bone structure but resist bone shrinkage––so you look younger
  • Mouth restoration that looks, feels, and behaves like natural teeth
  • The ability to chew, smile, and talk naturally
  • Improved confidence, which instills social, psychological, and physical wellness

The Components of Dental Implants

Your teeth are composed of a crown and root. The root acts to hold the crown by being embedded in the bone. Like tooth roots, dental implants are support structures that interface biologically or integrate with the bone of the jaw to support a dental restoration.

Dental restorations can range from single crowns, bridges, or even complete dentures. The link that secures the dental restoration and the implant is known as the abutment. Abutments and implants are made from either zirconia or a titanium alloy, both of which securely fuse to the bone under the gums.

Your Tooth Replacement Options

At Dakota Dental and Wellness Center, we utilize dental implants in Apple Valley, MN, in a variety of ways to replace single teeth, several teeth, and even complete arches of teeth.

If you are unsure which solution is best for you, schedule a second opinion or consultation, and we will help you determine which dental implant procedure is right for you:

Single Tooth Implants

An implant that restores a single tooth is an excellent replacement choice, as the restoration will look, feel, and function just like a natural tooth.

Additionally, through exciting surgical advances, we can often deliver an implant at the same time a tooth is removed. However, sometimes missing tooth sites do not have enough bony support for an implant, which may require the addition of grafting before or during implant placement.

Multi-Tooth Implants

In some instances, a patient may be missing several teeth but has healthy teeth surrounding the space.

Dental implants are extremely versatile, in that only two to three implants are needed to restore long spans of missing teeth through the concept of bridging. Dental implant bridging implies that some tooth crowns will not have “roots” underneath them, but instead, they are suspended between implant supported crowns.

Full Mouth Implants

For patients missing most or all their teeth, a full arch restoration on dental implants can restore function and natural aesthetics. You can choose between a fixed implant-supported full arch bridge or a removable implant retained denture.

Both options improve your ability to eat comfortably, live healthily, and feel confident and attractive.

Immediate Dental Implants

Our skilled implant dentists can place immediate same-day dental implants.

When the tooth is removed and the site is allowed to heal without support, a bony defect may develop. Additionally, the lengthy healing time before implant placement can delay the result. Therefore, immediately after tooth removal, implant placement may provide a better aesthetic outcome.

Our Implant Dentistry Treatment Process

Your dental implant procedure at Dakota Dental and Wellness Center is personalized to your specific oral health needs and smile goals. You’ll first complete a consultation for dental implants in Apple Valley, MN, where we’ll discuss your dental and medical history, take digital impressions and a CBCT scan, and create a custom treatment plan.

Next, you’ll undergo surgery, which may involve tooth extractions and bone grafting, along with implant dentistry placement. We use fully guided techniques for many of our surgeries to ensure an efficient procedure, with exact and predictable results. You’ll be resting comfortably under sedation and remain pain-free during your surgery.

Cost of Dental Implants

Some insurance policies cover dental implants and may pay for a portion of the cost, but you still may have to pay some out-of-pocket expenses.

Each insurance policy is different, so you can either check with your dental insurance provider or call our staff to determine your expected portion. We are in-network with Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna, HealthPartners, United Healthcare, United Concordia, and GEHA and will file claims on your behalf, though we cannot guarantee that you’ll receive benefits for your treatment.

Our practice also partners with CareCredit® and Proceed Finance to help break your treatment cost into affordable monthly payments. Contact our treatment coordinator to learn more and to receive details on our 5-year warranty for all our implant dentistry treatments!
