Apple-Valley-Dental-ImplantsProfessional Dental Implants for a Beautiful Smile

It is important to have nice teeth for more reasons than just a beautiful smile, though no one would blame you if that were your main motivation. But what happens when you lose one of your permanent teeth? That hole must be filled or your teeth will move and decay will set in. Your Dakota Dental team of dentists in Apple Valley, MN is happy to provide a natural looking, comfortable solution to loose, damaged, or missing teeth through implant dentistry.

Dental implants are synthetic substitutes placed in the root area of the missing tooth or teeth. Because they are fastened to the jawbone, they are sturdy and strong. Plus, today’s implants are so beautifully designed that they often look and feel like real teeth. In many cases, dental implants are so comfortable you might forget that they aren’t your actual teeth.

There are many benefits to choosing dental implants over traditional dentures and partial dentures such as:

  • Strength and security – implants won’t slide out of place
  • Comfort – enjoy a painless smile
  • Implants won’t interfere with speaking
  • No loss of taste or restricted diet
  • Restoration of biting force
  • A beautiful, natural look

Dental implants to retain dentures work by affixing a bar or small posts to the jawbone to serve as an anchor. This stabilizes regular dentures that then fit over the implants. These over-dentures can be cared for in the same way as traditional dentures and are removable for cleaning or convenience.

The implants may also be used for permanent, fixed dentures. Stronger than removable over-dentures, fixed dental implants mimic natural teeth and are consequently cleaned and cared for as such.

In case of bone erosion or atrophy, Mini Dental Implants (MDI) can still anchor a lower denture using thin, strong posts. This option has a minimal procedure and recovery time, meaning you do not have to sacrifice time or comfort to restore your smile.

If your current solution to tooth loss involves dentures or partial dentures that cause pain, won’t stay in place, or are generally frustrating, dental implants may be right for you. In addition to impeding speech and restricting your diet, traditional dentures can actually damage the bone underneath by a lack of stimulation, resulting in a progressively poorer fit. Dental implants are an excellent solution to avoiding these problems while enjoying the benefits of teeth that look and feel natural.

An added benefit of dental implants is that general anesthesia may not be required. Installing dental implants is a minimally invasive procedure, and most people have them placed only using Novocaine. 90% of all dental implants are done with local anesthetic in the Dakota Dental office, making recovery much quicker and easier. For those anxious over dental work, sedation is also an option.

Not everyone is a candidate for the dental implant procedure, and it is a surgical procedure that may require general anesthesia to perform. Because antibiotics or other care products may also be required, the cost of dental implants cannot be broadly stated. Every mouth is different and therefore every dental implant procedure will be unique to the patient.
