Implant Support Dentures vs. Traditional Dentures

A common frustration associated with traditional dentures is how they fit in a patient’s mouth. Loose-fitting dentures can cause irritation, difficulty speaking and articulating words, and trouble with eating. Implant supported dentures allow you to enjoy the benefits of dentures without the unwanted discomfort. These types of dental implants hold your dentures in place, but still allow you to remove them, so they can be properly cleaned after meals, preventing the onset of infection and decay. 

The dentures’ removable component is a result of special snaps, referred to as locators, that are used to secure your dentures to the implants. Your dentures will rest on both the tissue and the implants, creating more stability that gives off the illusion of natural teeth. Implants placed for full mouth dentures can often be utilized if you later decide to move into a fixed implant supported bridge, such as All-On-Four® or a full arch dental bridge.
