What to Expect at Your First Visit to Dakota Dental

March 18, 2016Dakota DentalDental Tips
family dentists, dental clinic

Dr. Isabella is just one of Dakota Dental’s friendly family dentists who is ready to care for you!

Your first appointment at a new dental clinic can feel scary. Will the dentists be friendly? Will they talk to you about improving your overall dental health and taking care of your teeth? Will you be comfortable?

Dakota Dental wants to assure you that you will feel at home at your first visit and know that these concerns have no basis for the care you’ll receive at their dental office! So even though you will be in very good hands, it may be helpful to have an idea of what to expect when you walk through the doors at Dakota Dental.

When you first walk into the clinic, our friendly receptionist will greet you at the front desk. Comfortable leather furniture, a fully stocked snack counter, and a relaxing water feature with beautiful highlight wall to help make the waiting room seem more like home.

One of Dakota Dentists family dentists will introduce themselves and lead you to an exam room. The doctors will do a thorough exam including:

  • E-rays and photographs
  • TMJ exam
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Soft tissue exam of head and neck
  • Bite analysis
  • Periodontal (gum disease screening)
  • Examine for tooth decay and gum irrigation

The doctors then present their findings to the new patient using visual aids as necessary in order to best understand any risks, benefits, limitations, and prognosis associated with any necessary treatment options.

While this exam is taking place, the front desk team performs a complimentary insurance benefits check so the patient can accurately understand what the cost is for each recurring visit.

If given the “all clear” by the doctor, your teeth will be polished and flossed by the hygienist. Depending on when you last had X-rays, you may also have X-rays taken at your visit.

After your teeth have been cleaned, the dentist will come in and meet with you and talk about any dental health issues you may have and will look over your teeth. If any further steps are necessary, treatment plans will be discussed. Then you will be led back out to the front desk to set up your next appointment.

The dentists at Dakota Dental, Dr. Shelley Wakefield and Dr. Bennett Isabella, want to make sure that each patient that comes into their office feels comfortable and prepared for their visit. Both Dr. Wakefield and Dr. Isabella are highly qualified dentists that care about bringing dental awareness to the community and want to make taking care of your teeth as easy and stress-free as possible for you.
