Dakota Dental has released several tips on embracing good oral health habits in 2018. The start of a new year is always a good time to create new goals, and with these tips to take care of teeth, patients can create healthy habits to prevent the occurrence of cavities and tooth decay.
Many people have already planned to eat healthier foods as part of their New Year’s resolutions, and luckily enough, healthy foods are also a great way to improve oral health. The fiber from fresh vegetables helps scrub away plaque buildup on teeth, and limiting sugary snacks and drinks can decrease the risk of tooth decay.
Another way for patients to take care of their teeth is to create simple brushing routines that they can commit to long-term. Brushing and flossing does not require a lot of time, so even dedicating 2-3 minutes every morning and evening to brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash can make a lifelong difference. Brush teeth twice daily for two minutes each, and aim to floss once per day. Test it out and see if flossing at night is easier to remember than adding it to a morning routine, or vice versa. And then, a few times a week, rinse with mouthwash.
If healthy food choices and regular brushing and flossing still aren’t achieving a white smile for patients, they can also consider some cosmetic dentistry options like tooth veneers or professional teeth whitening.
The family dentists at Dakota Dental have helped hundreds of individuals start and maintain healthy habits for their teeth. From their top-of-the-line preventative dental care program to patient resources and more, the Dakota Dental team is committed to having their patients succeed at their goals.
