Dakota Dental Reminds Parents that Childhood Oral Health Starts Early

June 26, 2013Dakota DentalPress Release

Many parents do not think seriously about their children’s dental care until the baby teeth fall out. However, Dakota Dental Apple Valley family dentistry encourages parents to think about their kids’ oral health long in advance.

Before babies even have teeth, Dakota Dental family dentistry believes it is a wise practice for parents to gently rinse their little mouths with water and lightly rub the gums to release any food that may be stuck. And when the first tooth appears, it is time to begin brushing twice a day. When two teeth touch, begin flossing once a day.

When a child reaches the one-year-old milestone, schedule the first dental care visit with a children’s dental services team like the one at Dakota Dental. This visit, recommended by both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, provides an opportunity for parents to learn how to properly care for the oral health of their children, including brushing and flossing techniques and dental care routines.

The next dental care appointment should be scheduled around a child’s third birthday. As the “real” first dental health appointment, the Dakota Dental kids’ dentists will perform a thorough oral health examination, cleaning, and fluoride treatment. Not only does this introduce a child to the family dentist and to good dental care habits, but it also allows parents to obtain a first dental care appointment with no financial strain.

Dakota Dental believes so strongly in establishing positive oral health habits early that it gives kids under three a first exam free. That’s right: the children’s dentists at Dakota Dental offer a completely free initial exam for children three years old and younger. Call 952-431-5774 or visit www.DakotaDental.com to schedule a dental services appointment.

Dakota Dental, located at 14682 Pennock Avenue in Apple Valley, serves the southern Minneapolis/Saint Paul suburbs.
