Give Kids a Smile Day, February 2013

Your Dakota Dental Apple Valley Dental Clinic is proud to report that our team of family dentists and staff saw more than 40 children and adolescents on Give Kids a Smile Day on February 1, 2013. In total, the Apple Valley Family Dentistry office provided more than $25,000 in complimentary dental care including preventative care, fluoride treatments, cleanings, sealants, and fillings.

Ten years ago, the American Dental Association launched Give Kids a Smile Day to help low-income families obtain much needed dental care for their children. It was also intended to open dialogue and raise awareness about the importance of dental services and care for young people, regardless of socio economic level. Every year, nearly 450,000 young people are served on Give Kids a Smile Day nationwide with nearly 5,000 of those in Minnesota.

According to Dr. Shelley Wakefield, Give Kids a Smile Day 2013 “was a fabulous day full of smiles from patients, parents, and the volunteers.” To see those smiles and the family dentists at work, view the photo album on Dakota Dental’s Facebook page. To learn more about Dakota Dental’s participation in Give Kids a Smile Day, view the segment on the KARE 11 Sunrise television program.

At Dakota Dental, Give Kids a Smile Day is a big deal. However, it is only the start of Dakota Dental’s community outreach activities. Dr. Bennett Isabella and Dr. Shelley Wakefield make presentations to schools, parenting and church groups, and other community organizations. These age-appropriate educational programs promote oral and overall health, emphasizing the importance of getting regular dental care, making good food choices and drinking water.

The team at Dakota Dental is committed to helping Minnesotans take care of their oral health. From participating in community outreach activities to maintaining an informative website and blog, Dakota Dental’s Apple Valley dentists serve children and adults throughout the southern suburbs of the Twin Cities. Providing general dental services, dental emergency services, and cosmetic dentistry, Dakota Dental may be reached by calling 952-431-5774.
